Dog Adoption

Where should you get your dog? There are generally two choices, you can choose to go to a business oriented person who will sell to you a dog that you like or you can choose to adopt.  Both are good ways to own a dog but why not think more to adopting? Each and every city has an adoption facility where dogs which are homeless are taken to and they expect that good people can come and adopt the dogs, and give them decent homes. There is a wide variety of dogs that you can choose from the different adoption homes, and you cannot lack an ideal dog that warms itself up your heart. One thing that you do when you adopt a dog is that you help reduce the burden that the adoption facility has, that of keeping a dog and providing it with food and shelter. When you give up a dog, there is limited space for shelters in the adoption homes and a dog cannot be kept there forever.

Another thing that you are certain of through adopting a dog is that you get an animal that has gone through various tests by the vet so that they can allow them to be verified.  The temperament of the dog is also verified so that the dog can be allowed to leave. You will get a dog that is specifically suitable for your needs. As you adopt the dog, you will note that all the vaccinations are done on the dog and all that you are left to do is to care and neuter the dog which is a relatively easy task as opposed to having to worry about the health of the dog and its vaccination record.

Animal shelters are brimming with happy, healthy animals just waiting for someone to take them home. Most shelters examine and give vaccinations to animals when they arrive, and many spay or neuter them before being adopted. In addition to medical care, more and more shelters also screen animals for specific temperaments and behaviors to make sure each family finds the right pet for its lifestyle.
While you choose to adopt a dog, you save money. Saving that extra coin is important, especially in this tough economy. Adoption facilities will rarely charge for a dog. If you desire to make a donation to the adoption facility, that’s up to you but nobody will charge you when it comes to dog adoption. If there is a charge pegged to acquiring the dog, there is usually in the cost of the vaccinations and de-worming done on the dog.  This charge however does not come close to the cost of procuring a dog from a seller.

In adopting, you too will feel better in that you have helped solve a problem that is there in the society.  You will be able to forge a bond with the animal that emotionally and psychologically will remind you of a good deed done. This feeling of fulfillment will reduce any loneliness you may have had prior to getting a dog.

Finally, you will also take pride in knowing you do not support puppy mills which are solely in the business of breeding puppies and selling them to the highest bidder without regard to the health of the dog giving birth. Puppy mills rarely consider the welfare of dogs, and this is yet a strong indication of why you ought not to consider them for business.

Time for Nero

It has been a long time since I have published something about our german shepherd. Nero was 7 years old this October. It was a beautiful day on his birthday (and one of the last worm days before the winter), so I decided to take some photos of him. Like every time, he was very cooperative and a great model. You can see the results at the pictures below...
